ABOUT DENNIS
A Versatile Musician of Excellence
Dennis Janzer is an award-winning composer attaining a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Composition from the University of Miami and holds other degrees, one as diverse as a Master of Science in Bio-medical Engineering from Marquette University. As composer and performer, Dennis has had the privilege of sharing music in a great variety of ways including churches, theaters and concert venues. His organ compositions are regularly played at church services, recitals and concerts and his numerous educational-pedagogical works are published in organ instruction volumes. It is the involvement in education, from teaching private music students, ranging from Kindergarten through College, to composing music included in pedagogical organ-teaching methods that is most important to him and the inspiration to new organists that is treasured most. “The First Organ Book” that is used at all of the American Guild of Organists Pipe Organ Encounters (POE) held each summer include his “must-play” compositions at every POE.
ASCAP has honored and acknowledged the activity generated by Janzer’s published compositions by awarding him an ASCAPlus award annually since 1996. In determining the presentation of this award, particular emphasis is placed on recent performances, including, but not limited to, student recitals and performances at educational institutions, churches, and non-profit programming or community concerts.
His diverse and large organ catalog is published by www.theleupoldfoundation.org/, where he is a House-Composer.

What the critics say
Reviews
The Waukesha Symphony Orchestra celebrated its 45th anniversary in grand style… the orchestra presented the premier performance of “In Celebration” by composer Dennis Janzer…[The composition] presents statements of melody, rhythm and musical texture alternately in wind, brass and string sections. The effect is much like that of a collage, …The composition presents varied meters, symmetrical and asymmetrical, and varied moods from lighthearted to intense.

…the premiere of Janzer’s Suite No. 1: Celebrations and Reflections
…was quite impressive. …Exultant Dance and Soliloquy are standouts. (Composer’s performance: Organ Historical Society National Convention)

Three Festive Organ Preludes
A collection of useful contemporary service music. “Enter the Gates of his Temple” makes a lovely short prelude; using an economy of notes, it creates atmosphere and mood… “Triumphant Trumpet”…succeeds in doing interesting things within an old format. Here is a fine collection of practical music from one of our better composers.
